Day Ten
Day 10 - A dream you had this past week described in detail
Details, huh? This could take awhile…
Jess* was with me, and we were in someone’s video and photography studio. She and I were together on the couch, and I was fiddling around with her friend’s fancy schmancy HD camera, but it was huge! And I had her in my sight while the camera itself had its own moving backgrounds like she was already in a movie without the use of a green screen. The background was staticky like some old black and white movie, and she was in some kind of city, perhaps waiting for a cab. She kept laughing and standing there, sometimes with her hand on her hip, sometimes flicking her cigarette, trying to avoid looking directly at the camera.
I guess we were waiting for Lenore, because Lenore shows up and asks if we are ready to go. At this point I am chatting with Charlie through gtalk on my phone while Lenore and Jess do a walkthrough before we leave. We get to some park, which looks like the park where Charlie takes his dog for his afternoon walks, when I stop Lenore to ask if she locked the doors. We head back to the studio to check, and someone else is already locking up after us (only I can’t tell if it’s Charlie’s brother Patrick, or if it’s this guy Aaron who works with James). Whoever he is, he barely acknowledges us and Lenore, Jess, and I start for wherever we are going again.
It turns out Lenore is housesitting someone, and we end up at this house almost like the giant ones I saw near that same park (in real life), or maybe even the houses we found in Monterey near Pebble Beach. It has a giant wooden gate that opens when you enter some code, and we walk up this path** to several double-doors made out of some kind of stone-like material, all heavy when you push ’em. We entered the stone double-doors on the right, and when we closed them behind us, I realized I wasn’t exactly sure how to lock them from this side. There didn’t appear to be any knobs or locks to turn, and Lenore went to the kitchen to see if there were instructions left by whoever owns the house. But my impatient self decides to just turn the long metal handle sideways, pretty much bending it with what appears to be super strength, and then the handle kinda jams up into the other door. (I am not describing this correctly, I realize that.) When Lenore comes back and sees my makeshift lock, she laughs and oddly enough an actual deadbolt appears and we both shrug and lock it up.
Messages are still coming from Charlie on my phone, and I walk up the stairs, pausing at the top, and on the other side of a door it sounds like Jess is already talking to someone on her own phone. Both Dream Me and Me in Real Life are not surprised by this; of course we three girls have not hung out together alone—without our guys—since August of last year, but Jess is a talker and will gab to anyone who listens. I take the chance to walk back downstairs and ask Lenore if it is okay that I make a phone call myself, trying not to be as rude as Jess unwittingly does (even if she means well). Lenore replies, “Sure,” and I message Charlie asking if it is okay that I call him. A garbled message appears and I take it as him saying, “Just a minute,” or maybe it was, “In a moment,” or something along those lines. (In past dreams I was pretty sure I could read without any problems, no jumbled letters of figures throwing me off, but this particular one might be the first time that something written didn’t look like actual words.) It didn’t matter anyway because as soon as I read that message on my phone, I woke up to the sound of one my cats vomiting.
*Names have been changed
**Addendum: Forgot about the part where I trip up on some slate in the dark and scream higher than any scream that has left my mouth, not unlike that blood-curdling, high-pitched scream Christina Ricci makes in the movie Casper when she meets the ghost for the first time… What? You didn’t see that movie? Uhhhhh, yeah, neither did I… Anyway, after I screamed, Lenore and Jess and I kind of giggled and I made some remark aloud about how I never scream like that.
